Just My Type by Falon Ballard
I couldn’t have done this picture with anything other than a hazelnut latte, Lana’s favorite!
I really enjoyed this second-chance workplace romance! Lana is a journalist for an online magazine and focuses on articles about dating. She's a serial monogamist and has been jumping from one long-term relationship to another through her entire adulthood. She thought her boyfriend of 4 years was about to propose but he took them back to their first date spot to dump her instead. After drowning her sorrows for a night, she has to go into work for a mandatory meeting the next morning, only to come face-to-face with Seth, her first love. After they broke up at the end of high school, he went on to become a jet-setting journalist, covering stories all over the world. Now he's in LA, trying to secure a job with the Chronicle, who just acquired her online magazine. Seth is a serial dater, so he and Lana are pitted against one another. They have to create 10 tasks for the other person to follow - Lana's are meant to help her be happy being alone and Seth's tasks are to prepare him for a long-term relationship. Antics ensue! I loved Lana's obsession with all things Marvel and really loved some of the commentary on how powerful pop culture/art can be in people's lives. I liked the short glimpses of what-could-be between them as the story progressed. I kind of wish we had at least some chapters from Seth's POV because you really didn't 100% know how he felt about everything until the end of the story (although you could guess since, you know, this WAS a romance novel) but that's mostly just my preference for dual POV. I really enjoyed it!
Is this in your TBR? Have you already read it? What did you think?
