I Think He Knows by Katie Bailey
I absolutely love Katie Bailey's books! I feel like most clean romances or clean romcoms have an inevitable amount of cheesiness to them, but cheesy in the best way! But somehow Katie Bailey manages to create these swoony romances that are hilarious but never have me rolling my eyes at parts. I'm convinced we could be friends because her references are always so spot-on for me!
This book is the second in the Donovan Family series (and the first book, So That Happened, was one of my top 20 of last year). Lana Mae, sister of Liam, the hero from book 1, is finally re-entering the world of dating now that her daughter is almost 10. But it's going atrociously with one bad date after another. She's so adamant about it because she's determined to finally get over her best friend, Carter James Callahan, for good. They met on the day Lana Mae found out her boyfriend was cheating on her, which was right before she found out she was pregnant with that boyfriend's baby.
Carter had feelings for Lana right away but she was going through so much that it wasn't the right time to try for anything more. He vowed to always be the best friend he could be to Lana Mae and Allegra, her daughter. But now Carter is a famous movie star and has gotten himself into some trouble after a very public fight and it's impacting his chances for a leading role in an upcoming movie. His agent suggests a fake engagement with another star who's known for her wholesome background to improve his image. Something gets lost in translation and the media reports that Carter and Lana Mae are engaged!
I loved the humor and references (especially all of the #TeamJess Gilmore Girls references). The fake engagement between Lana Mae and Carter created all of the opportunities for building chemistry and tension that I love in fake relationship stories. Allegra and Lana Mae's brothers and their spouses brought all of the meddling and pushing that make siblings series so fun. This was a very sweet romcom that I thought was super fun!
